Vernon Turner hasn’t always called North Carolina home, though. Having spent three years living in Hawaii as well as two previous jobs in Mississippi and Alabama, Vernon’s travels have led him on adventures far away from here. However, after years spent chasing storms across the South, this NC State alum joined the Spectrum News team, chasing the opportunity to finally return to North Carolina.

 

With a special interest in severe weather preparedness, Vernon knows a thing or two about the importance of being a calm voice within the storm. While Vernon began working for Spectrum News in 2018, his passion for weather coverage began long before that. Citing 1999’s Hurricane Floyd as a pivotal event in sparking this interest, Vernon has always had an appreciation for informative reporting prior to a storm. Returning home to Raleigh and helping the community he cares for so deeply prepare for impending severe weather has emerged as one of the unique highlights of Vernon’s career.
